A list of current gripes.

I don’t know why I am surprised. No one understood what I meant when I said “ I am a drama therapist” No one really understood what I meant when I called myself a “teaching artist”. The fact that “creativity coach” is throwing people for a loop - a title I find to be as descriptive and concise as possible- irritates me. (To be fair, I have been particularly irritable lately, a trait sure to wear out its welcome amongst friends and peers, though I admit, I find it amusing situated on the edge of grouchy.)

All that to say, if you have a better title, send it my way.

“Like life coaching?” - no.

“Like therapy?” - no.

Like. Like you have the best idea in the world and you love it and you are getting too far ahead of yourself so you freak yourself out and try to forget about it. Like you finally found what it is you want to be doing with your time and money and you take two kind-of-manic steps forward and then not even a tip-toe for a year. Like you need someone to hold you accountable and hold your hand and be a little mean to you and believe in you. Like that.

Sometimes I worry about how I package things. For a minute there, I really cared about the sophistification of all parts of my life. My therapy interventions. My feed. My website. My style. For sure my writing. There was a secret hope that if I felt sophisticated, I would be taken seriously. Through about two years of that, I learned that I am moron. The truth is, people are going to take you seriously or they aren’t. There is nothing you can really do about it other than take yourself seriously and move on.

On that note:

Taking yourself seriously is not the same as looking cool.

Taste and style are developed through action and experience.

Curating a life that you aren’t actually living leads to burn out and failure.

There isn’t really anything cool about incongruence.

Not on that note:

Flights are too expensive.
